Double Helix Kronos 2

!

Reducing

Beads made by Anouk Jasperse

An enhanced formula of Kronos that is stronger, cleaner, and easier to strike. When worked in a slightly reducing flame this color develops swirls of blue, green, cream and a rainbow iridesence. Briefly reheating in a oxygen rich flame can enhance struck color. This glass is a deep cobalt blue.

Double Helix Luna 2

Striking

Beads made by Anouk Jasperse

Luna is a striking color so work hot, cool and reheat to develop purples, pinks, and blues. We had the best results reheating for 10-15 seconds in the tip of the flame.

Double Helix Nyx

!
Reducing
Nyx will reduce to a mirror-like or multi-colored luster, as you'd expect from a Double Helix color, but Nyx does something else! Though the rods start out black as Night, Nyx will kiln strike through a steady fade of Midnight Blue, Lapis, Peacock, Turquoise, and Sky Blue. You can determine the coloration through annealing time, temperature and placement in your kiln.

Tips: We recommend kiln striking a rod of Nyx to estimate the kiln striking time at your annealing temperature. Our kiln striking tests were perfomed between 950 and 970 degrees F. One hour annealing time produced Midnight blue, while Sky Blue tones developed over three to four hours. Higher annealing temperatures push the Sky Blue to a greenish color. Encasing may alter kiln struck color.

Encasing heavily reduced Nyx can produce a mother-of-pearl effect. Speckled and swirled organic effects can be acheived by working the glass very hot before application.  Excessive reduction followed by kiln striking can produce earthy caramel tones.

Double Helix Pandora

Striking

Beads made by Anouk Jasperse

A kiln striking color producing rich purples and greens.  No flame striking is required.

To get the best results with your kiln we recommend you make a simple bead to use as a test.

Anneal the test bead at your regular temperature.
Pull out the bead at one hour intervals and check it's progress.
As it strikes it will go Amber - Ruby - Purple - Green - Blue - Opaque Red.

Make note of the results and use that information to achieve your desired kiln striking.

If it does not strike enough for you in your time frame, you have two options.
1.) leave it in for an additional day's annealing cycle, or
2.)
Increase the striking temperature to accelerate the strike.

This purple glass has been concentrated so the dark purple remains in a surface application.  It reduces quickly creating a multi colored luster.

Double Helix Terra 2

!

Reducerend & Strikend

Finally, the mystery is solved and Terra 2 is here! Using the same colorant system we used in the original Terra but in a stabilized formula we have recreated Terra. She is opaque; she lusters and maintains her luster under clear. She strikes and does it easily under an encasement.

We recommend you work hot, cool, reduce and encase.

Double Helix Terranova 2

Striking

Beads made by Anouk Jasperse

Terranova 2.1 is a highly saturated silver ruby.

A tremendously varied color, it is capable of blues, greens, purples, reds, browns and can produce copper red webs in a reduction flame. The depth and hue of these colors are dependent on the heat treatment given. Working hotter or colder, doing a lot of shaping or a little, all of these and more will affect the color.

Work hot, cool and reheat.  Reduce for metallic effects.

Double Helix Triton

Reducing

Beads made by Anouk Jasperse

Triton is an extra strength super luster on a cobalt blue base. It can produce a satin iridescence, swirls of multi-colored silver and retain its luster under clear.

Work in a neutral flame, allow to cool for a few seconds, reheat far out in a large reducing flame. For the multi-colored satin effect work in the tip of a larger reduction flame, let cool and then briefly reduce again.
